Answers of Quiz 1916 (Marconi and Radio)

1. On 25 April 1874
2. Guglielmo Marconi
3. Italy
4. Radio
5. He shared the 1909 Nobel Prize in Physics with Karl Ferdinand Braun "in recognition of their contributions to the development of wireless telegraphy".
6. Wireless telegraphy came to mean Morse code transmitted by radio waves (electromagnetic waves), initially called "Hertzian waves", discovered by Heinrich Hertz in 1886. The first practical wireless telegraphy transmitters & receivers were developed by Guglielmo Marconi beginning in 1895. By 1910 communication by Hertzian waves was universally referred to as "radio", & the term wireless telegraphy has been largely replaced by the more modern term "radiotelegraphy".
7. Marconi's law is the relation between height of antennas & maximum signaling distance of radio transmissions. Guglielmo Marconi enunciated at one time an empirical law that, for simple vertical sending & receiving antennas of equal height, the maximum working telegraphic distance varied as the square of the height of the antenna.
8. On 20 July 1937
9. 63 years
10. On 13 February
11. Radio waves are type of electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths in the electromagnetic spectrum longer than infrared light.
12. James Clerk Maxwell was 1st to predict radio waves by mathematical work done in 1867.
13. Heinrich Hertz demonstrated the reality of Maxwell's electromagnetic waves by experimentally generating radio waves in his laboratory in 1887.
14. Wireless is using waves to transmit signals or having no wires
15. In 1899
16. Wireless communication is a type of data communication that is performed & delivered wirelessly.
17. Frequency is number of waves that pass a fixed place in a given amount of time.
18. Hertz (Hz) is a SI unit of frequency, equal to one cycle per second
19. 3 KHz to 300 GHz
20. Electromagnetic Waves which can travel through vacuum of outer space
21. Ionosphere
22. A radio station is a set of equipment necessary to carry on communication via radio waves. Generally, it is a receiver or transmitter, an antenna, & some smaller additional equipment necessary to operate them. Radio stations play a vital role in communication technology as they are heavily relied on to transfer data & information across the world.
23. Frequency modulation (FM) is the encoding of information in a carrier wave by varying the instantaneous frequency of the wave. This contrasts with amplitude modulation, in which the amplitude of the carrier wave varies, while the frequency remains constant.
24. Television is an advance upon sound broadcasting since pictures & not just speech sound can be sent by it.
25. Radio Communication is the transmission of signals by modulation of electromagnetic waves with frequencies below those of visible light. Electromagnetic radiation travels by means of oscillating electromagnetic fields that pass through the air & the vacuum of space. Information is carried by systematically changing (modulating) some property of the radiated waves such as amplitude, frequency, or phase.
